All students, faculty, and staff are invited to become involved with the One Love Foundation over the coming weeks. The statistics around relationship abuse are daunting, but we believe they can be changed. By educating ourselves and starting the conversation in our communities about the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, we are changing and saving lives.
One Love, named for Yeardley Love, is a multi-layered education, awareness and movement-building campaign that surrounds young people with messages about healthy and unhealthy relationships in the classroom, the community and online. This all-encompassing approach will shape the next generation’s understanding of relationship abuse and shift community norms. There are two upcoming opportunities to get involved with One Love. –Escalation Workshop- This month, we will work to train new student and faculty/staff facilitators for the Escalation Workshop, a film-based discussion that opens people’s eyes to the warning signs of relationship abuse. The workshop consists of a film, Escalation, followed by a guided discussion. If you would like to be trained as a facilitator, you may sign up athttps://www.joinonelove.org/act/escalation-workshop/ or email Rebecca.Harrington@Oneonta.edu.
-Yards for Yeardley- On April 18, the college will host Yards for Yeardley, an annual community awareness and activation event through which individuals across the country have rallied to honor Yeardley and support One Love’s mission to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships. Yards for Yeardley can take many forms–whether it’s running, biking, walking, swimming or even roller blading. You can participate as an individual, as a team or as a community. Additional information will be provided in coming weeks.
SUNY Climate Survey– All students and employees also have the ongoing opportunity to respond to SUNY’s bi-annual survey around sexual and interpersonal violence. We want to hear your opinions and experiences. SUNY will be emailing the survey link directly to SUNY Oneonta community members and the survey will be live between March 18th and April 8th.
For more information on any of these items, please contact Andrew.Stammel@oneonta.edu or Rebecca.Harrington@oneonta.edu.
