Reminder to state employees to report honoraria

All state employees must adhere to the regulations of the NYS Joint Committee on Public Ethics (JCOPE).  These Ethics laws were enacted to prevent both actual and apparent conflicts of interest between official duties and private interests.

Honoraria (any payment received for a service performed that is NOT part of one’s official duties) and Outside Activities (e.g. private or public employment, business ventures, holding an elected or appointed public office, serving as a director or officer of a for-profit entity) must be requested in advance and approval must be made before the honoraria is received or participation in the outside activity occurs.
