The SUNY Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) is pleased to invite students to apply to be nominated for a unique and challenging opportunity as a Student Senator to represent SUNY Oneonta during the CUNY/SUNY Model Senate Session. Students participate in a mandatory training program with a campus mentor to develop leadership skills in a legislative/policy-making setting, emphasizing critical thinking and communication. Students should be prepared to commit their time during the weekend of March 8-10, 2019.
The Model Senate, now in its 23rd year, is held in Albany at the State Capital Senate Chamber in conjunction with the annual state-wide “Somos el Futuro Conference.” In addition, student senators will have the opportunity to compete for ten scholarships awarded by the NYS Assembly and Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, as well as summer interships with members of the state legislature.
The SUNY Oneonta contingent of 3-4 students will be led by Andrew Stammel of the Office of Equity and Inclusion. Lodging, transportation, and food costs will be covered by SUNY. Please email inquiries to andrew.stammel@oneonta.edu or phone 607.436.2835.
Applications are due February 22, 2019.
