Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Hunt Union Ballroom, the SUNY Oneonta World Chorus will present a concert entitled, “Out of this World.” Metaphysically-themed recent compositions by Eric Whitacre, Erik Esenwalds, Dominick DiOrio, and a Pentatonix cover will feature a variety of soloists. Guest Artist Julie Licata, Associate Professor of Music, will perform Dominick DiOrio’s Alleluia for Marimba solo and Chorus. Danielle Swiercyzna (Nutrition, ’20) will sing Whitacre’s haunting, chant-based Oculi omnium, Ajare Malcolm (Music, ’21) and Heather Aadal (Biology, ’22) will sing a duet in Esenwalds’ romantic O salutaris hostias, and Jeremy Wainwright (Music Industry, ‘20 ) Edward Bossong (Biology, ’19), Kelsey Hall (Communication Studies, ‘19) and Dominique Tomanelli (Music Industry, ‘22) will cover solos in the Pentatonix version of Leonard Cohen’s iconic Hallelujah.
In addition, five students who traveled with Professor Timothy Newton to Durham (UK) University in September will perform a few short pieces from the repertoire they performed with Birmingham Conservatoire choral faculty, Paul Spicer. Timothy Newton will conduct the concert, accompanied by Music Department keyboard faculty member John Colonna. The concert length will be approximately 45 minutes.
