Sixteen area Elementary and Middle school students gathered for four-consecutive Saturdays during the Fall 2018 for a Lego Robotics Enrichment Seminar at SUNY Oneonta. Students in grades 5-6 traveled from five area schools to work alongside an interdisciplinary group of seven SUNY Oneonta students to learn and play with Lego Mindstorm Robots, which were provided courtesy of the SUNY Oneonta Physics and Astronomy Department.
During the robotics-themed session, students worked in pairs, supervised by lead instructor Sebastian Muzeja, and college student volunteers, Nathan Rutherford and Robert Merril from Physics; Emma Sarnacki from English; Kristen Duscher from Biology; Jamie VanDeWater and Ashley Caputo from Elementary Education, under the leadership of Dr. Hugh A. Gallagher.
The Lego Robotics program is a collaboration between SUNY Oneonta’s Physics and Astronomy Department and the Catskill Area School Study Council to provide regional students opportunities to deepen their interest in STEM.
