Greetings from the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center!
As we move towards the spring semester, there are two large events working out of the GSRC that need planning committees. One is the Lavender Graduation Recognition Ceremony in April 2019, and the other is SUNY Pride 2019. More details are below:
The Lavender Graduation Recognition Ceremony is an event that recognizes graduating seniors for their work, passion, and advocacy within and/or for the LGBTQIA+ community here at SUNY Oneonta. The planning committee meets biweekly starting in February to plan the 2-hour event, which will take place on Sunday, April 28th. This committee focuses on the marketing/promotion of award nominations, electing award recipients, and coordinating the event (decorations, schedule of events, etc.).
The SUNY Pride Conference is a SUNY-wide event that invites students, faculty, staff, and others from different SUNY institutions and off-campus organizations to present research and/or best practices surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community and their experiences. Our next conference will be October 18 & 19, 2019. This planning committee will begin meeting biweekly at the end of January, focusing on creating the steering committee, schedule of events, identifying a keynote, and more. This is a rolling committee that will continue when classes begin in August, so if you would like to join this committee, please plan to be involved both in the spring and fall semesters.
If you would like more information on either event and/or are interested in joining a committee, please contact Emily Phelps (Emily.Phelps@oneonta.edu or x3019).
