Family Weekend 2018 was a success!

Family Weekend 2018 Recap

More than 560 families registered with 2,076 people visiting campus and participating in more than 45 activities and programs during the weekend of September 21-23.

· 79% of families came from first year students and 10% from families of transfer students

· 76% indicated high satisfaction with the overall experience

· 86% felt it was very organized

· 96% felt the employees and students on hand were very helpful

· 85% indicated they would return to the event next year

Some of the events featured our academic faculty and professionals facilitating or presenting programs: Phil Bidwell, (Office of Facilities, Safety and Physical Plant) presented a session on college history- Constructing a College—Thirteen Decades of Development;  Doug Reilly, Outreach Coordinator organized a series of hands-on activities at the Science Discover Center (Electricity Alive! and Evolution Explained!);  Tim Sheesley, Gallery Director opened the galleries for the exhibits  The Floating World–3D Animation, and Jean Parish Memorial Scholarship: 2017-18 Student Recipients Exhibition;  Dr. Josh Nollenberg (Physics and Astronomy) provided several Planetarium shows;  Dr. Ronald Bishop (Chemistry and Biochemistry) offered two demonstrations “From Forensics to Materials to Life: Viewing and Manipulating the World of Molecules; David Geasey, Director of Media Technologies and Engineering lead a series of interactive television studio production experiences for families; and Oscar Oberkircher (Human Ecology) coordinated and hosted and a wine tasting/reception event.

Family Weekend is a major college program which requires the goodwill and time of our students and college employees to lend a hand. It’s an opportunity for our SUNY Oneonta families to get together and build community with our students and their families. In this spirit I wish to thank our volunteers who stepped up and helped make the weekend shine: Michelle, Tess, and Zosia Thibault, Nicola Gray, Tracey Ranieri, William Woodward, Amanda Finch, Erin Meehan, Bri Supensky, Bharath Ramkumar, Snapper Petta, Stephanie Peguillan, Nicolette Lukacs, Kim Fierke, Angelica Duran, Shyanne Sherwin, John Mullins, Odalis Barzallo, Marianna Wesolowski, Collen Engle, Kthari Han, Jackie Schrom, Samantha Janowitz, Shannon Marlow, Robin Dee, Kristin Lee, Peter Owens and the men’s lacrosse team, Nicholas Merritt, Sean Daly,  Bernie Corbett, Kyle Sinclair, Kelly Tenbus, Alexandra Dratch, John Bugyi, Lisa Miller, Lorin Levins, Michael Forster Rothbart, and our GSRC student staff: Jillian Moczara, Rowan Fitzgibbons, Shinique Smith, Katie Hebert, Geneva Frazier, and Rosana Dejesus.
