John Relethford publishes encyclopedia entry on human evolution and genetics

John Relethford, Anthropology, has published an entry in The International Encyclopedia of Anthropology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2018) titled “Genetics of modern human origins and diversity.” This article reviews our current knowledge of genetic diversity in the human species and how it is best understood in terms of our species’ origin in sub-Saharan Africa 200,000 years ago and subsequent dispersion out of Africa 60,000 to 100,000 years ago, including interbreeding events with archaic human populations such as the Neandertals and Denisovans.
