Classes are open to campus and community members and have varying fees associated with them. Please read through the list of offerings for specific details and to see what suits your interests and level of experience. Creative Writing for Adults, a six class series for $75.00

Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m., 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 & 10/17

Hunt College Union, Glimmerglass Room

A great opportunity for anyone who would like to write, but has difficulty getting started. This introductory workshop invites adults to put their life experiences or words of wisdom down on paper. Using fun and easy prompts, students will learn to express themselves in the form of their choice: fiction, personal narrative or memoir – all are welcome. Exercises will stir the imagination and become a launching pad for creative self-expression. Through writings by various authors, we will discuss voice, point of view and where inspiration comes from. Must be 18 years or older. Bring a ruled notebook and pen or pencil to class.

Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Fall Training, $75.00

Saturday, November 3, 9:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. (with a half hour lunch break on your own)

Hunt College Union, Glimmerglass Room

Who needs to complete DASA training? Anyone applying for NYS teacher certification after December 31, 2013, must complete six hours of DASA training which is comprised of school professionals including but not limited to: teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, psychologists, social workers, and coaches.

Five Hour Prelicensing Courses, $35.00 per class

Offered once a month, varying days and times – Please see website for specific class dates.

Hunt College Union, Red Dragon Theater

This course fulfills the New York State 5 hour prelicensing course mandated by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Students must successfully complete this course before scheduling a road test. Registrants must have a valid permit to participate in this course.

Turbo Kick, an 8 class series for $80.00

Tuesdays, 4:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6 & 11/13

Hunt College Union, Butternut Valley Room

It’s the ultimate cardio challenge that’s a unique blend of kickboxing moves, dance, intense intervals, strength and endurance training and a relaxing cool-down. No bags. No gloves. No previous experience required. Just challenging boxing combos choreographed to the hottest music mixes. Options for both high and low impact techniques are shown to make it YOUR workout.

Chair Yoga

Mondays, 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Morris Complex, Room 130

Session I, a 5 Class series for $50 – 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, & 10/8

Session II, a 5 Class series for $50 – 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10 & 12/17

A very gentle, beginner’s class in which we use the chair for support through all poses, either standing next to the chair or sitting in it. Emphasis is on exploring range of motion; breathing exercises; and developing greater flexibility. No mat needed, just comfortable, stretch clothing. Excellent class for those with injuries, stiffness, or decreased mobility due to surgery; this class can be done in a wheelchair. This class will give you a great workout and is adaptable for all levels.

Gentle Hatha Yoga, a 10 class series for $100

Tuesdays, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, & 11/20

Hunt College Union, Butternut Valley Room

Gentle Hatha Yoga integrates the body, breath and mind with breathing techniques and meditation through standing and laying down yoga postures. This yoga class consists of yoga postures to promote flexibility and clear the mind. Beginner and mixed-level are welcome. This yoga class provides yoga blocks and straps to focus on alignment and stability. Please bring a yoga mat, water, and wear comfortable clothes.

Partner Yoga, a 4 class series for $60.00 per couple

Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. 9/6, 9/13, 9/20 & 9/27

Morris Complex, Room 130

This Yoga class was designed for two people to experience a gentle yoga practice with each other’s support and encouragement – what a wonderful way to deepen a friendship, a love relationship, or a parent-child connection. Poses are easy and fun; there’s a lot of laughter in this class! Suitable for friends, couples and parents with children who are at least 14 years old. Wear comfortable, stretch clothing and bring a mat. This class is really fun and will have you wanting to come back for more! Try it out and see for your selves. All levels of experience are welcome.

Slow Flow Yoga

Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Morris Complex, Room 130

Session I, a 7 Class series for $70 – 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 & 10/17

Session II, a 5 Class series for $50 – 11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12 & 12/19

Sign up for this gentle, flowing class in which we move through poses, usually holding a pose for 15-20 seconds. Emphasis is on slow movement through the available range of motion, gradually building strength and flexibility. Participants bring their own mat, wear stretch clothing and are comfortable with moving from a standing position to the floor and back up again. Occasionally we will use props such as chairs, blocks and straps (all provided by instructor, but wonderful if some participants can bring their own). This class is beneficial for beginning and intermediate yoga students.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga, a 10 class series for $100

Wednesdays, 4:40 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 11/7, 11/14 & 11/28

Lee Hall, CME Room 11A

Vinyasa flow yoga is a flowing sequence of yoga postures that synchronizes the breath with every movement, often known as a moving meditation. This yoga class consists of breathing techniques, sun salutations, work-phase and a cool down. Some yoga experience is recommended. Please bring a yoga mat, water, and wear comfortable clothes.

Yoga Sculpt, a 10 class series for $100

Mondays, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. – 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12 & 11/19

Lee Hall, CME Room 11A

Yoga Sculpt consists of resistance training yoga postures to help increase strength and flexibility and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. This yoga class helps develop and maintain strong bones, improve body image and confidence with a one-breath-one-movement pace. All levels welcome. Please bring a set of 2-3 pound hand weights, a yoga mat, water and wear comfortable clothes.
