World Chorus concert to take place April 30

Join the SUNY Oneonta World Chorus (formerly Concert Choir) as they present a rare, Estonian a cappella piece, Raua needmine (Curse upon Iron) sung in English, from memory, on Monday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt Union Ballroom. The vocal colors created by Estonian composer, Veljo Tormis, capture not only the terror of violence that so many continue to experience in the USA and around the globe, but also the darkness into which so many humans are thrust during such random violent acts. Come, experience SUNY Oneonta students raising their collective voices in awe, fear, horror, resignation, and ultimately liberation. The concert features soloists Professor Stephen Markuson, bass-baritone, Timothy Newton, bass-baritone, John Colonna, piano, Evan Jagels, bass, and Caitlin Coleman, shaman drum and drum set. The concert is conducted by Timothy Newton.

The concert will consist of Curse upon Iron and two African-American gospel songs and will last 30 minutes. Take a study break and witness the anguish of voices against violence.
