James Ebert, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, is a coauthor on a paper recently published in Lethaia. The article is entitled “A new, high-precision CA-ID-TIMS date for the ‘Kalkberg’ K-bentonite (Judds Falls Bentonite).” The paper reports a new radiometric age (417.61 +/- 0.12 million years) for an important volcanic ash bed in the limestones of central New York. In recent years, previously published ages from this ash have been used to calibrate a portion of the Geologic Time Scale. The paper also presents new data on the fossil-based age of the ash. Other authors on the paper were from the University of Iowa, Boise State University, Ohio State University at Lima, and Ghent University (Belgium).
