Alden Scholar Series Lecture to Feature Dr. Sallie Han—April 6

Please join us on Thursday, April 6, 2017, 7 p.m., in the Alden Room (3rd floor) in Milne Library for the next Alden Scholar Series lecture entitled Rethinking Clutter:  An Anthropological Take on the Stuff that’s Hard to Let Go.  Dr. Han’s focus will be clutter from a cultural anthropologist’s point of view.  A reception will follow Dr. Han’s presentation.  LEAD credit will be available.

Dr. Han will expand upon differing interpretations of accumulated clutter as sign of both materialistic extravagance and of extreme frugality.  To demonstrate her points, she will discuss examples from her earlier work on pregnancy and parenting with their associated collections of things, or clutter, that give meaning to people’s everyday lives.  She will also draw upon her current research done in collaboration with Dr. Britt Halvorson at Colby College.

The Alden Scholar Series celebrates SUNY Oneonta faculty who have published books or book-length projects. Copies of the presenters’ books are available for purchase after the talk, courtesy of Damascene Book Cellar.
