Gina Keel Presents Paper on Policy Strategies at International Food Studies Conference

Gina Keel (Political Science) presented “Shifting Venues, Shifting Narratives: Strategies of GM Labeling Combatants in the the Sixth International Conference on Food Studies at U.C. Berkeley on Oct. 12, 2016. The paper examined the successful effort by food and grocery industries to sponsor and win a weak federal GMO labeling law and thereby preempt state mandatory labeling laws achieved by food movement activists. The case examines venue shopping and framing strategies for policy change. The conference included scholars and practitioners from several countries in disciplines ranging from agricultural science to policy studies to the arts.
