Self-Nominations are being sought to serve a two-year term on the Strategic Planning Council (SPC). At this time, we have a vacancy for one (1) teaching faculty member. All other posts are currently filled. If you are interested in serving in this capacity on the SPC, please send your nomination by email to Laura.Emmett@oneonta.edu by September 12th. Nominations should include a very brief statement about how you plan to contribute to the work of this committee. The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association is proud to support student success by annually providing $82,000 in student scholarship support. The scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate students who excel in the classroom and distinguish themselves as leaders. Selection is based upon a variety of criteria, including academic excellence, financial need, and service to the college and community. Students must have completed one semester at SUNY Oneonta. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. The recipient must have paid the Undergraduate Alumni Fee.
The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association Annual Scholarship application is now available online at http://www.oneontaalumni.com/scholarship16. Students will have until October 1 to submit a complete application. Recipients will be selected by a committee of Alumni Association Board members. Scholarships range from $1,500 – $3,000 and will be awarded in the spring semester.

As many of you may have already heard, Jim Greenberg was diagnosed with stomach cancer at the beginning of the summer. He is now well into the treatment process and would appreciate your notes from friends and colleagues. Notes of encouragement can be sent to IT Services, care of Chilton Reynolds, who will pass them along to the family. If you would like regular updates on Jim’s progress, please consider joining the Facebook group his family has set up by messaging Kathy Greenberg on Facebook. At this point in his treatment the family is requesting no personal visits.
Through generous gifts from Caroline (class of 1967) and David D’Antonio to the College at Oneonta Foundation, the D’Antonio Undergraduate Student Travel for Excellence Fund was created to provide assistance to undergraduate students for expenses related to travel to professional meetings and conferences. Both full- and part-time undergraduate students in any academic discipline are eligible to apply for and receive travel awards (priority is given to students who are presenting). Requests for travel funding may not exceed $750 per student application. Applications submitted by September 19th will be reviewed/acted upon by September 28th.

Gregory Fulkerson and Alexander Thomas (both of Sociology) recently published an edited book volume, called Reimagining Rural: Urbanormative Portrayals of Rural Life (Lexington Books, 2016). This volume focuses on how rural people and places are portrayed in various media outlets, such as television, film, and literature. This is the first addition to the book series, Studies in Urban-Rural Dynamics, also edited by Fulkerson and Thomas.
The SUNY SMRT system will be disabled as of October 1st. SUNY Business Intelligence (BI) training will be offered by SUNY via web-ex on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. from September 6th – September 27th. All Account Managers, Alternate Account Managers and departmental users are welcome to attend these training sessions if desired. Please contact the Accounting Office via e-mail email@example.com to obtain the web-ex log-in information and training manual. The Accounting Office will still provide individual training as needed on an on-going basis.
