UUP is participating in a canoe/paddle this summer on Saturday, August 13 with a 2 PM departure time from the fishing/boat access in Portlandville on Route 28, just before the right turn/across the bridge turn to Wightman Lumber on Route 25A.
The paddle is non-competitive, open to the family and friends of UUP, publicized, approximately 5 miles round trip, start and return. Lot and street parking are available.
For those who would like to participate but don’t have a boat, canoe/kayak rentals are available immediately adjacent to the public fishing/boat access at Canoe & Kayak Rental and Sales at 2828 NYS Route 28, Portlandville, NY (607-286-7349).
The purpose is three-fold—raise public commitment to protecting our regional water resources, encourage participation in the recreational opportunities afforded us, and build solidarity. Life jackets are mandatory, and sun screen is advised. If you are interested in participating, email Bill Simons at William.Simons@oneonta.edu.
